To celebrate the 30th Day of German Unity, the city of Potsdam is organising a 30-day open-air exhibition this year. On behalf of the Wohlthat Entertainment agency from Berlin, we equipped the Unity EXPO with attention-grabbing LED technology, creating digital eye-catchers in Potsdam’s city centre.

In 2020, the 30th Day of German Unity was celebrated in a completely new form: instead of the usual civic festival, the organising federal state of Brandenburg presented a 30-day open-air exhibition this year due to the Corona pandemic, the UnityEXPO under the motto “30 years – 30 days – 30 x Germany”. Since 05 September 2020, installations and exhibits from the various constitutional bodies, federal states and partners relating to unity and other social issues have been on display in Potsdam’s city centre.

In addition to the exhibits of the federal states, 22 LED pillars have been installed along the way. We used the VIDITOWER system here for the first time on this scale. The VIDITOWER consists of four LED surfaces of 4 m² each, which are attached to a five-metre-high scaffolding structure. At EinheitEXPO in Potsdam, INFiLED modules ER4,6mm with a total of 352 m² LED surface as well as one system computer per tower for controlling the LED modules are in use. Especially logistically, the nine-day installation was a challenge that our six technicians successfully mastered: the 22 VIDITOWER were installed in places throughout the city centre, some of which were difficult to access, while at the same time ensuring perfect security to protect passers-by.

Another highlight in Potsdam is the 148 m² LED floor made of INFiLED DS modules. It visually represents a large pond and thus provides a real eye-catcher in the city centre. As the LED pond is freely accessible to visitors, safety was a top priority for us. For this purpose, five large ventilation units with distribution hoses were installed under the LED floor to ensure air circulation at outdoor temperatures of 30° C in some places. Other hazards such as tripping hazards were also avoided by providing level, edge-free crossings.

After the exhibition closed on 4 October, nine technicians ensured the smooth dismantling of the LED modules within two days. Enthusiastic visitors and eventful exhibition days are the conclusion of the first UnityEXPO.
