Before the start of the European Championships, the organizers expressed their desire to capture the atmosphere with an oversized 32:9 format. While at the last World Athletics Championships, the Marathon Gate was covered with a 250m² video screen, this time they wantedto leave the gate open for visual and architectural reasons. Since the loads for a video wall measuring up to 300m² were too great, considering all the static forces, we investigated the possibility of a suspended version in the stadium roof. After consulting with roof an structural engineers and providing evidence of the wind force influence in the video system, we received approval for the suspended installation of two 275m² 32:9 video walls.

We installed a unique LED installation in the only access to the interior of the stadium – the Marathon Gate. Here, we constructed an LED presentation gate. It consisted of a 4.9mm outdoor LED video wall in the shape of a goal frame and a 16:9 backdrop video wall behind it, which could be raised upwards using a motor as needed. This was necessary to ensure access for emergency personnel at all times and to allow the entry and exit of technical equipment.

In addition to the athletic competition venue in the stadium, the European Mile at Breitscheidplatz was another event location in central Berlin. The organizers built a small public stadium for the city center, bringing the European Athletics Championships even closer to Berliners. Here, we deployed three additional UPAD III H5 video walls with a 5.9mm pixel pitch. These served as stage backdrops, for public viewing of the Berlin stadium and the European Games in Glasgow, and also showed the stage action with music or interviews to the thousands of visitors.
