IAA 2017

A PERFECT WAVE WITH OUR CURVED SCREEN!

An LED screen doesn’t always have to be flat. This is something we demonstrated quite impressively with our concave design at the Mercedes-Benz Vans booth at the IAA 2017. The objective was to present and draw attention to the new X-Class using visual emotion – and a curved screen with a waved shape had to reflect the Big Wave Surfing theme at the show.

In order to build a seamless and rimless wave with the LED and to create a very unique presentation, a flexible LED module was selected. Initially, different ideas and implementation approaches were considered, ranging from individual LED clusters through to flexible mats and module systems. Following a few tests, we opted for the module version which proved to perform brilliantly at the show. In spite of its somewhat  longer construction compared to other systems, the flex module has some very unique advantages. It is robust enough for outdoor use and it also features the variability required for a concave or convex bend. “The design decisively influenced the booth in the IAA’s exterior area. The curved design was a surprising and unexpected eye-catcher and, with its customised content, it ensured that visitors stopped to have a look and immerse themselves in the thematic world. High-level interest and several inquiries following the IAA confirm the extremely positive response we received during the show,” says Project Manager Julian Stengelin, from the follow red Berlin implementing agency, when referring to the impact of the 60 m² screen. The screen also had to be made of all-weather-resistant material to withstand both rain and high winds. To this end, a special positioning and support structure had to be developed, which was integrated into the overall stand construction.

The IAA is regarded as the leading international trade show for the automotive industry and attracted more than 800,000 visitors to Frankfurt in 2017.
